This is not a Chinese madrassa. Firstly, the children, whilst being Chinese nationals are non-Han - mostly Uighurs, a Turkic group. This photo was taken in Hotan, XInjiang Province, otherwide known as Eastern Turkistan. So one can quibble over the Chinese-ness of the children. More importantly, this is most likely a normal primary school, not a madrassa, which are banned in China for children under 16.
Thanks for the valuable info...And I have used the term madrassa here in a generic fashion as this Arabic word literally translates to "school." I don't mean it quite in the religious sense.
