The Meaning of Love

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast,

It is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,

It is not easily angered,

It keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil

But rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts,

Always hopes, always perseveres.

– Corinthians 13: 4-7

brother j:
beautiful quotation.
is this referring to agape love? this also reminded me of willow wilson's article from islamica magazine's last edition where he states agape love finds its sister meaning in muhabba within the Muslim tradition.

It's interesting you mention agape love, which is known as selfless love in the Christian tradition. This passage is recited in most Christian marriages and I think it is fitting to call this a description of agape love, or muhabba as it is know in the Muslim tradition, because it describes one whose love is not for the nafs (human ego), but for the other (be it one's spouse or God, the Exalted).
